Excellence & Innovation in Education Outside the Classroom 

EONZ recognises that education outside the classroom is a significant dimension of New Zealand education. This award recognises excellence in pedagogy where quality and innovation are evidenced, and effective curriculum-based teaching extends learning beyond the classroom walls.

This Award is open to all pre-school, primary, intermediate and secondary schools and tertiary institutions across Aotearoa New Zealand.

EONZ measures the quality of EOTC through the following principles:

• Quality teaching and learning, with a strong connection to the New Zealand Curriculum and or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa;
• Developing learner’s awareness, appreciation and ability to take action towards a sustainable future;
• Engaging learners meaningfully with local communities, places, and culture;
• Developing a learner’s personal and interpersonal capabilities;
• Showing a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi;
• Innovative and creative approaches to EOTC.
