Revisioning School Camps

Revisioning School Camps

The Revisioning School Camps PLD offers guidance and suggested teaching and learning approaches for schools wishing to offer quality school camp and EOTC learning experiences for their ākonga. Specific to teaching and Learning in years 7-10.

Who is this PLD for:

  • Schools wanting support to review their EOTC/camps or explore innovative approaches
  • Educators who want to expand their knowledge of localised curriculum and ways to authentically embed EOTC across all learning areas (including literacy and numeracy)
  • Student-teachers, teachers and school leaders working across all levels and areas of the curriculum (primary – secondary), with an interest in or responsibility for EOTC.

Please note that this workshop doesn't cover EOTC safety management. If you’re interested in this information and support, please check out our EOTC Management PLD.

What is covered in this PLD:

Delivered over two 1-day workshops, participants will:

  • learn four key concepts and a process to support an EOTC curriculum/camp review or refresh

  • explore curriculum planning tools and activities

  • experience a range of fun, integrated and learning-rich activities that can be used with ākonga.

Workshop 1

You’ll begin the day by learning about four important concepts that will help your school to develop localised, place-responsive, and student-centred EOTC and school camp experiences. You will also review your current school camps/EOTC and develop a vision for the future. This workshop includes plenty of time for discussion and reflection, and you’ll have the opportunity to engage with a range of inspiring case studies and resources.

Workshop 2

The second workshop is very practical and brings to life the ideas presented in workshop one. You will learn about and use a range of planning tools and participate in impactful and learning-rich activities. The activities you experience can be adapted for a range of settings, age groups and learning contexts. You’ll also have the chance to reflect on your next steps and receive advice from the group and your facilitator.

Further information:

The two workshops run from 9.00 am - 3.00 pm on both days and are usually spaced two weeks apart.

We recommend 2-3 colleagues attend from each school, including one senior leader.

You will receive 9 months of post-workshop support to help you implement the ideas and practices learned during the workshops.

This PLD has been made free to schools through the Ministry of Education Networks of Expertise funding.

This PLD is for school staff only. If you work for an RST or camp/outdoor education provider and are interested in this PLD, please contact us to discuss the options available to you.

Revisioning School Camps: A teaching and learning resource

Type: Teaching and learning resource

Description: This resource offers guidance and suggested approaches for schools wanting to develop localised, place-responsive, student-centred school camp programmes.

Case Studies from Revisioning School Camps PLD

We’ve gathered inspiring case studies from teachers who have transformed their school camps through Revisioning School Camps professional learning journeys. With PLD support, they developed localised, place-responsive, and student-centred camp programmes tailored to their communities. By sharing these stories, we hope to spark fresh ideas and encourage you to reimagine your own camp experiences or adopt innovative approaches from our case study schools.

Yes, schools can register more than one participant if space allows. If possible it is ideal to have more than one person there so that you can work together to implement the ideas back in your school.
