Mātauranga Māori in Outdoor Education
This PLD is for teachers wanting to develop their understanding of mātauranga Māori within Outdoor Education/Education Outdoors. Kaiako of all year levels and subjects are welcome.
- Participate in a pōwhiri and noho marae/overnight stay.
- Explore the connection between mātauranga Māori and EOTC/outdoor education.
- Explore the area and connect with mana whenua, hear pūrākau, pakiwaitara and history of significant places.
- Learn about traditional skills and the tikanga of these skills.
- Examine and discuss the outdoor recreation, māori environmental and māori tourism unit standard assessment resources. Explore the Te Ao Māori concepts within them such as karakia, pepeha, waiata, ngā atua.
- Plan next steps of action to integrate mātauranga Māori into your teaching practice.
DATES AND LOCATIONS:
Tauranga Moana - 21st-22nd March 2024
Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau - 20th-21st June 2024
Tongariro - 11th-13th September 2024 (3days)
Christchurch/Ōtautahi - 7th-8th November 7th-8th 2024
Cost
- 2 day PLD, $85 for EONZ members, $125 for non-members.
- 3 day PLD, $170 for EONZ members and $250 for non-members.
